# What is dia

dia lets AI assistants such as Claude create system architecture diagrams, and lets people view, check, and share them. Diagrams are made of elements and arrows, and dia lays them out automatically, so you never adjust positions by hand and can focus on the content.

The web app is at [https://dia.rakudeji.com](https://dia.rakudeji.com). You sign in with a Google account.

> The web app's interface is in Japanese. These pages give each Japanese label in parentheses the first time it appears, for example Share (共有).

## What you can do

- **Ask your AI for diagrams** — Describe the diagram you want, and your AI creates an architecture or data flow diagram.
- **See changes as they happen** — When your AI edits a diagram, the change appears on the screen you have open.
- **Go back to earlier versions** — Every change is kept as a version. Review what changed and restore an earlier version.
- **Share and download** — Share a document by link. Download diagrams as PNG, SVG, or ZIP.
- **Icons** — Browse the standard icons, or upload your own logos as custom icons.
- **Present** — Show diagrams full screen and step through them with the keyboard.

## How it works

1. **Connect your AI**

   Register the connection URL with your AI. See [Connect your AI](/en/connect).

2. **Ask your AI**

   Tell your AI what diagram you want. It creates a document and diagrams in dia.

3. **View it in dia**

   Open the diagram in the web app and check it. Tell your AI what to fix. Share or download the result.

> You don't edit diagram content in the web app. Your AI creates and edits diagrams; you use the web app to view, organize, and share them.

## Key terms

| Term | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| Project (プロジェクト) | A container for documents. Documents created without a project go into Unsorted (未分類). |
| Document (ドキュメント) | An ordered set of diagrams. Sharing works per document. |
| Diagram (図) | A single diagram made of elements and arrows. |
| View (ビュー) | A named highlight of some elements in a diagram. Your AI adds views to a diagram. |
| Version (バージョン) | A record kept each time a diagram changes. |
